There is a derivational suffix that is added to adjectives in order to form verbal stems.
21.1. -an- :
[A] EA verbs (= verbs with ergative subject and absolutive complement)
oçuçkanams (FN ~ AH-Lome) [< çuçku] “he softens”
oisanams (FN ~ HP) [< isa] “he repares ; he sets s.th. upright again”
ok’ap’et’anams (FN ~ AH) [< k’ap’et’i] “he reinforces”
omç’itanams/ omç’it’anay/ omç’itanaps [< mç’ita] “he reddens” ; “he browns in a pan”
[B] Aø verbs (= verbs with absolutive subject without complement)
iç’ut’anen (AH) [< ç’ut’a] “it becomes smaller”
imğacanen (PZ) [< mğaca] “(a pear) becomes over-ripe”
imç’itanen [< mç’ita] “it turns red” ; “it becomes brown in a pan”
